Being creative plays a very significant role in my life. It is impossible for me to say which craft has been the most important; as it is always the one I am currently immersed in. I was very fortunate to come from a creative background, so from a very early age I was encouraged to 'play with' different media. However being artistic didn't go down too well at school as it was geared to academic skills, of which I had few. I remember my headmistress being horrified, when at leaving school, I announced that I was going to Art College. Art College was in Brighton, Sussex, England, where I specialised in textile design. I moved to West Cork, Ireland in 1980, and started taking painting seriously; the surrounding scenery inspired many of my pieces at that time. In 2000 I firstly took a two year course in arts and crafts and then undertook a four-year, Dublin Institute of Technology BA course in Fine Art. In 2007 I moved to the South East, where I now have my studio. I continued painting until 2009 but I was changing my style to include mixed media, I found I was missing the textures and layering that I needed to express my feelings. I also at this time started designing and making jewellery, mostly with natural ingredients. Semiprecious gems chips; I love the random shapes and colours; glass beads and plaited hemp, knotted cord and wire. Now I am exploring the use of mixed media to incorporate into my pieces. It is, for me, a very exciting time and I hope this feeling is conveyed to my designs. All my pieces are unique, one of a kind, designs, made to a very high standard with quality materials.
